The organizers of FIG World Challenge Cup: We are looking forward to 4 finals

“We have chances to see at least 4 Bulgarian athletes at the finals of the World Cup”, stated the Organisation committee’s chairman Jordan Jovtchev. Today the competition was opened with an official ceremony, before which a press conference was held. Apart from the legendary Bulgarian gymnast attendants were also the Bulgarian Federation’s president Krasimir Dunev, the vice-mayor of Varna Kosta Bazitov, the executive director of Palace of Culture and Sport Minko Hristov, as well as the International Gymnastics Federation representative Jeffrey Thomson.

“We are looking forward to a very heated competition. Here we have established champions, who want to train to their maximum and test their opponents before World Championship, which will held in less than a month. I believe that our nationals have the opportunity to appear in least 3-4 finals in different events”, commented Krasimir Dunev.

“It is an honor for Varna to be hosting the World Cup. We continue to prove that our city is not only a festival capital but a centre of sports as well”, shared the vice-mayor Kosta Bazitov.

“We think that with the renewed look of the Place of Culture and Sport we own the best sports equipment in Bulgaria. I hope that all participants in the tournament will enjoy their stay and our city”, said Minko Hristov.

The representative of the International Gymnastics Federation Jeffrey Thompson recalled some of his memories from 30 years ago, revealing that his career as a judge has started exactly from Bulgaria.

“When I left Canada to become a judge for the international tournament, I came exactly here, in Bulgaria. I remember the competition in Golden Sands. So for me is a great pleasure to be one more time in your country. As a representative of the International Federation I want you to know that we highly appreciate your hospitality. From what I saw so far, I can say that you are doing wonderful job”, added Jeffrey Thomson.
